September 1, 2021 - A Comal ISD educator has earned her National Board Certified Teacher Certification.
Katie Biggs, an instructional design coordinator for the district, is among the less than 1 percent of educators in Texas to have received this distinction. The Comal ISD Board of Trustees recognized her achievement during its regular board meeting Tuesday.
Considered the gold standard in teacher certification, National Board Certification was designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide. It is the most respected professional certification available in K-12 education.
Biggs joined Comal ISD in 2018 and is a member of the district’s professional learning team. She coordinates the district’s mentor program, assists with instructional coach development and helps design professional learning opportunities for teachers.
Previously, Biggs worked as an elementary teacher and mentor in the DoDEA school system, teaching in Korea and Germany. She was the 2015 Korea teacher of the year, the 2018 European PTA teacher of the year and a finalist for the 2019 Presidential Awards for Teaching Excellence in math and science.
