Comal ISD Director Named CTE Administrator of the Year for Texas

March 6, 2023 - Comal ISD's director of Career and Technical Education (CTE) & Career Readiness, Renee Martinez, has been named the CTE Administrator of the Year for Texas by the Career and Technology Association of Texas (CTAT).

“This award is special to me, because I was nominated by CTE peers across the state,” says Martinez, who has been an educator for 21 years, 18 with Comal ISD.

In fact, nominations are received from CTAT area presidents throughout 12 areas in Texas with one candidate being selected to represent the state at the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) Region IV awards.

Martinez advances to the Region IV contest in April of 2024. Region IV includes Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

“CTAT is proud to have Renee represent Texas,” says Robin Painovich, CTAT executive director. “She is leading one of the top CTE programs in Texas, and we are very proud to honor her with our highest award for administrators.”

The CTAT/ACTE Member Excellence Awards recognize individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to CTE programs that exemplify the highest standards and organizations that have conducted activities to promote and expand CTE programs. Award winners serve as inspirational leaders to CTAT and ACTE: they embody the core values of serving their students and being committed to CTE.

“CTE programs help students make connections between school and the real world,” says Martinez. “They also give students the opportunity to experience real work scenarios before high school graduation, opening the door to employment or furthering their education.”

Approximately 7,200 students are enrolled in a CTE courses in Comal ISD. Offering 35 programs of study, the district continues to find ways to expand these opportunities for students who want hands-on training and experience in real-world careers such as automotive technology, aviation, health science, hospitality, floral design and more.

These CTE programs are always looking for community businesses to partner with in order to give students the real-world experience they need. Businesses interested in a partnership, should contact Martinez at [email protected].
