Canyon Welding Students Begin New CTE Dual Credit Partnership with TSTC

Canyon High School Welding students are participating in a new Career and Technical Education (CTE) dual credit partnership with Texas State Technical College (TSTC). Students enrolled in Welding II, part of the Welding Program of Study, are participating in the inaugural year of the partnership and recently completed enrollment and orientation with TSTC. During the 2026–27 school year, students will earn six hours of TSTC college credit that can be applied toward an associate degree.

The partnership provides students with an opportunity to earn high school and college credit simultaneously while gaining college-level technical experience in their chosen career field. It also creates a pathway for students to continue their welding education at TSTC after graduation.

Students who complete the CTE dual credit courses during their junior and senior years have the potential to graduate with 14 college credits from TSTC, along with the American Welding Society (AWS) Structural Steel I and Welder Helper Industry-Based Certifications (IBCs). After graduation, students can continue their education at TSTC toward credentials such as the Structural Welding Certificate, Advanced Pipe Welding Specialization, and Welding Technology–Welding Processes, with the opportunity to ultimately earn an Associate Degree in Welding Technology.

The partnership provides students with college credit, industry-recognized certifications, and technical skills aligned with workforce needs. It also supports Comal ISD’s College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) goals by connecting CTE coursework with postsecondary education and career opportunities.
Through partnerships such as this, Comal ISD continues to expand opportunities for students to earn credentials and gain skills that prepare them for success after high school.

Thank you to the Career and Technical Education department for always seeking new Paths to Success for our students!
